In 2020, our journey began. Nestled in the serene environs of Lackawanna State Park, campers started each day with the reflective Tahajjud prayers, setting a tone of introspection and peace. The Insight Foundation established these activities to forge a connection between the spiritual teachings of Islam and the tranquil beauty of nature.
After a nourishing breakfast, campers gathered in the woods for readings of Islamic texts, the natural quiet enhancing their focus. These sessions smoothly transitioned into dynamic discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of the texts and encouraging reflective dialogue among the participants.
Post-discussion, the energy shifted to sports activities, where campers participated in volleyball and soccer. These games not only invigorated the body but also strengthened team bonds. Free time and communal dinners rounded out the afternoons, setting the stage for the evening’s activities.
As dusk fell, the campsite, illuminated by the gentle glow of a bonfire, became a haven for storytelling. Campers, with tea and biscuits in hand, listened intently to Islamic stories shared by experienced mentors, a tradition that both educated and inspired.
